LANSING – State Representative Richard LeBlanc (D-Westland) today announced two local school districts will receive more than $3.6 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant funding to improve education for at-risk students and enhance learning for all students through the use of technology.
"This is great news for our community," LeBlanc said. "Michigan will need a well-educated workforce to compete in the 21st century global economy, and bring businesses, investment and jobs to our state. It's important that we support our schools and teachers to ensure they have the resources they need to give every student a high-quality education."
Under the federal grant funding announced for Wayne County schools, Wayne-Westland Community Schools will receive a total of $2,679,185 and Livonia Public Schools will receive a total of $992,893.
In addition to K-12 education funding, the city of Westland will receive $189,975 in public safety grants, $287,004 in community development block grants and $731,100 in energy efficiency conservation block grants.
