LeBlanc Named Leader of House Police and Veterans Sub-Committee

Representative also appointed Associate Whip by colleagues

LANSING – State Representative Richard LeBlanc (D-Westland) was named Chair of the Michigan State Police and Military and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee on Wednesday.

"I am eager to put my experience to good use for the people of Michigan," said LeBlanc, who has served as a reserve police officer for the Canton Police Department for over 20 years. "I have the highest respect for the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. I will continue to fight to ensure that our State Police troopers get the support and funding that they need to do their jobs and that our courageous service members' jobs and homes are secure when they return home to their families."

In addition, LeBlanc was named Vice Chair of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee and will serve as a member of the Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee and School Aid Appropriations Subcommittee.

Following his recent swearing-in for his second term in the Michigan House, LeBlanc also was appointed to serve as Associate Majority Whip. The Associate Whip works with the Majority Whip as a liaison between Caucus members and leadership, and assists with directing activities on the House Floor. During House Session, the Associate Whip works to garner support among the Caucus for proposed legislation.

"I am pleased to accept these challenging positions to help move our state forward," LeBlanc said. "My colleagues and I are united in the goal of creating good-paying jobs and bolstering our economy. I also will continue to fight to ensure that our State's budget isn't balanced on the backs of our hard-working families and most vulnerable residents."
