LANSING – In an effort to show their thanks to our servicemembers, including those who have been wounded while serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, or other foreign lands, State Representative Richard LeBlanc (D-Westland) and Westland City Councilman Robert Stottlemyer worked with officials at the Michigan International Speedway to arrange a day at the racetrack for our veterans.
"We wanted to show Michigan's brave residents who served our country in the armed forces that we appreciate everything they have sacrificed for us," said LeBlanc, who is Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State Police and Military and Veterans Affairs. "I know we can never repay our vets for the sacrifices they and their families have made for us. Arranging a day at the racetrack for our vets is one way to show our gratitude for all that they've done for us and our nation, and I hope they have a great time."
Speedway President Roger Curtis donated 50 tickets for the June 17 Citizen Bank 400. The tickets were given away to veteran military members, including those who were wounded while serving.
"Our veterans have made so many sacrifices on our behalf, we wanted to give them a day that's all about them," Stottlemyer said.
